INTERVIEW // BIGGER THAN TEN BEARS
Tell us about Bigger Than Ten Bears (BTTB), and what is your role/s within the company?
I am the founder and owner of BTTB. BTTB is like my third child and often gets as much attention as my own children! I am passionate about making memorable events whether it’s a pop-up event for over 1000 guests or an intimate dinner for 20.
Our clientele is an enviable mix of top of mind corporations as well as like-minded up-and-coming businesses. I’m particularly proud of our long-standing clients whom we have looked after since BTTB began in 1998.
It’s my responsibility and priority to ensure our clients’ and their guests’ needs are exceeded and to keep striving to deliver outstanding events.
I genuinely enjoy each step of the event process from mood boards to bump out, there is something I like about each step.
I am also passionate about seeking out creative suppliers such as Dann Event Hire, that are revolutionising what’s possible in events.
Which three words best describe BTTB?
Tell us a little about one of your most memorable projects you’ve worked on:
Traditionally BTTB has steered clear of doing weddings. We’ve done a handful but last year one of my dearest friends was getting married and the bride and groom gave me 100% creative clearance that resulted in one of the most extraordinary weddings ever- complete with Dann Event Hire’s gorgeous furniture. We brought together Melbourne’s A-team of Rutherford Entertainment, florist, bespoke caterer, a beverage consultant, special effects gurus and more and it was an excellent example of letting the experts do their very best. It was also heart-warming working alongside with my niece who helped project manage the event. Plus, my son was ring-bearer so it was a true family affair. Yes, the event was incredible but it was seeing two people you adore just so happy, that’s what made it magical.
Where would you host your dream event?
I love being on the water. An event on a luxury boat at sunset with an unlimited supply of Champagne with Beyonce, JT and Ed Sheeran performing, would be incredible!
A great day begins with?
My ideal start to the day would be a brisk walk or run around the ‘Tan and then a good coffee from one of the cafes in
Domain Road, South Yarra.
Name your favourite Melbourne hangout…
Café Di Stastio
Who or what inspires you? Where do you look for inspiration?
I can easily get bogged down with an overload of visual references, to be honest, my partner Robert inspires me because he has an ability to distill information and keep things refreshingly uncomplicated.
What is your favourite city in the world and why?
Oh goodness, that’s not fair as there are so many places ! I adore Kyoto, New York City but as a native New Zealander I have to say Queenstown. It’s visually stunning and there’s so much to do, plus the local wine and produce makes dining out with my family an absolute joy. Add in those postcard-perfect views and plenty of fresh air and that’s my idea of heaven.
Which Dann Event Hire piece do you resonate with the most?
I’m a big fan of the Nero Velvet lounges in blue. They are decadent and sexy. I think of them as the Aston Martin of couches.
If you were a piece of furniture which would you be? Why?
I’d be chandelier. I like to oversee things and be a bit behind the scenes, but I’d be there with a twinkle in my eye and with a dash of sparkle!
