INTERVIEW // GEORGEOUS + GEORGE
Who/what is Georgeous and George, and what is your role/s within the company?
Georgeous Occasions is our wedding focussed arm of the Georgeous Group or Family, while GEORGE is our new look corporate face of the brand. My role is as Creative Director and Business Development Manager for the company. I have an overall vision and direction for the business so I play the role of “idea and concept creator”. With the very exciting recent addition of our General Manager, Becky Roddis, I now have incredible support to ensure my many crazy ideas and “concepts creations” are brought to life!
Which three words best describes you?
You have recently rebranded your corporate division which is really exciting. Can you tell us a bit more about the structure and purpose of your rebrand?
The perception in the market place has been “Georgeous only do weddings as they are pretty, feminine and floral”. By listening to our clients and suppliers we have undertaken a review of our branding and strategy in the corporate event space looking for ways to speak louder (or more directly) to our corporate clients.
And so we would like to introduce you to GEORGE. The recently launched corporate arm of the business. A new look “type-face” logo, a new look website and its very own instagram account ,are all ways of us communicating more effectively to the corporate market. A new aesthetic, a new language, a new concept. We are very excited!
We had our first GEORGE event 2 weeks ago in sunny Port Douglas for Audi. A treasured new relationship with a beautiful brand. Stand by for more!
Tell us a little about one of your most memorable projects you’ve worked on
Oh this is so difficult to answer as there truly have been so many! I would have to say some favourites have been
Rebecca & Stuart
earlier this year was incredible
as was the stunning Steph and Alex
None of these events we will ever take for granted.
We are incredibly fortunate to be provided with such opportunities and such incredible clients time after time.
What are your favourite trends of the moment?
Velvet, tassels, always flowers, texture, always Champagne. Did I mention flowers and Champagne?!
What colour palette are you loving?
This would have to be a dark dark blue and an emerald green…but I am always secretly obsessed with a soft grey and pink! I cannot lie!
What can’t you get enough of right now?
I am a very patriotic Tasmanian girl at heart so I am very proud to see everything “Tassie” making a mark on the national and international map today. Be it tourism, hospitality, arts, culture, nature or history, Tasmania has it all. Thanks to people such as David Walsh (MONA) and Simon Currant (Cradle Mountain Lodge, Franklin Manor, Peppermint Bay, and now Pumphouse Point) the tourism and services industries are of incredible standard.
And I recently rented a designer dress for our Turning Ten Celebration and I am hooked! Glam Corner is now my best friend. Impeccable service, amazing social media, amazing product. Check them out!
What are your top 3 main sources for inspiration and references?
The Collective Magazine
And our industry as a whole, both locally, nationally and internationally
You have recently launched a beautiful collection of Chuppahs which were designed in-house by you and your team. Can you share with us your vision during the design process?
I wanted to provide Melbourne with some beautifully and carefully curated Chuppahs available for hire. I wanted them to be classic, with “an edge” enabling clients to style in any way they wish. For this reason, we have kept each design quite simple, yet sharp and beautiful.
Flowers and / or tallits can be easily added by clients themselves (or we can most certainly make this happen for them of course!).
We had a huge amount of fun creating them and then styling them for our photo shoot.
See link to our “behind the scenes” video from our photo shoot here
What’s the best mistake you have ever made?
I believe in things happening for a reason…and timing. So while I have most certainly made some mistakes, I would also refer to them as learnings rather than mistakes per se. I also like to believe that not only I, but the business and brand have become stronger and wiser as a result of such learnings.
Where would you host your dream event?
On the waterfront at my Father’s home in Hobart (where Stu happened to propose!).
What do you do to get away from it all?
Go for a walk with my family…with a coffee in hand!
Name your favourite local (Melbourne) location/s i.e café, bar, restaurant, space, suburb, park…etc.
I do love our home suburb of Prahran. Always action but also beautiful parks to wander around…and perhaps some rather dangerous shops!
Which Dann Event Hire piece is your favourite?
Petal Pink Sofia Lounge…oh how I love thee!
If you were a piece of furniture which would you be? Why?
An entrance side board table passed down through generations…oh the stories I could tell! I would see all the comings and goings in the home, would be the keeper of letters, keys, flowers, candles, bags…and pretty much everything. What a fascinating life I would have.
