INTERVIEW // MELBOURNE FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL
What is Melbourne Food & Wine Festival? What are/were the highlights of the 2017 MFWF?
We’re an internationally-renowned food festival that happens all across the state of Victoria for 10 days in March/April each year.
Which three words best describes the MFWF?
Each year your team create multiple activation spaces over Melbourne during MFWF. What is your creative process when designing these spaces and how do you keep it fresh each year?
Collaboration is the key – we generally start out with just a seed of an idea and an open mind and talk it through as a team internally. We then reach out to our network of partners – designers, architects, stylists, artists and work together to come up with the best ideas. We then follow our gut instinct!
Do you have a philosophy that you instil into the Festival?
We’re all about shining a light on the incredible produce and producers that Victoria has to offer. We’re a global food and wine destination for good reason and it is our privilege to bring this to the world.
Who are you inspired by? (Producers, culinary enthusiasts, designers, artists…)
We’re inspired by the passion of the people, producers, winemakers, and chefs that we work with every day. It’s testament to them that our Festival is what it is today. Hospitality is an incredibly hard industry to succeed in. It takes so much time, hard work, and risks to make it. It’s the people behind the food, the makers of wine, that we’re so passionate about supporting.
What is MFWF work space like?
We work upstairs in the Prahran market! Perfect for our team to have access to fresh, excellent qaulity produce every day, and great coffee right underneath us at Market Lane Coffee. We *did* have a small garden growing on our front deck but alas it’s a bit neglected since the Festival period hit!
What colour palettes are you enjoying working with at the moment?
We went bright with bold patterns for the House of Food and Wine in 2017 – in autumnal hues of pink, dark red and navy.
Can you share some local (Melbourne / Victoria) foodie secrets?
Plenty! Things are always changing in the Melbourne restaurant scene, but one thing that never goes out of fashion is quality. Check out our Melbourne guide on our site for some of our favourite spots http://www.melbournefoodandwine.com.au/festival-info/melbourne-foodie-tips
Which Dann Event Hire piece is your favourite?
We love the Nero dining chairs in velvet.
If you were a piece of furniture which would you be? Why?
We would be a dining table of course!
